Coming Up on Main Menu for the Week of April 13-19 2012

While David Tanner is away, Chase Crispin will be the host of Main Menu for this week. David will be back next week.

This week, we begin by airing the first half of a two part panel discussion all about note takers as a conclusion to the last few weeks of demos. We discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each of the devices that we have been demoing, how these devices are used in the daily lives of the panel participants, and why these specialized devices are still needed for some people. We also point out some of the large weaknesses in the current generation of note taking products. This is something that many of you have suggested since our first panel discussion last August, and we are pleased to finally bring you this discussion. After the end of the first half of the discussion, David Woodbridge from Vision Australia shows us how to use the new iMessage beta application from Apple on any Mac running OS 10.7.2 Lion or later. This app will ship with Mac OS Mountain Lion 10.8 when it is released later this year. Finally, we hear another interview from the SeroTalk Podcast Network at serotalk.com from the 2012 CSUN conference all about the latest from the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) including the soon to be released Braille Plus 18 Second Generation note taker and cell phone powered by android and the Book Port Desktop digital talking book player and recorder.

If you are someone who wants to know the best note taker or mainstream technology to use to meet your daily needs, someone who wants to text your friends and family from your Mac, or if you just want to hear all about the next generation of assistive technology, you won't want to miss this week's Main menu, heard first right here on ACB Radio Mainstream.

Main Menu can be first heard on Fridays at 9:00 pm Eastern time. It airs throughout Saturday on ACB Radio Mainstream.
